Flap like a bird and see how your wing speed compares to two real birds.
What You Need
What You Do
- Draw Chart
Draw the following chart on a piece of paper.
- Flap Arms
Flap your arms as fast as possible while you count for 2 seconds. Record the result in the chart.
- Discuss Your Results
Help your child to compare his or her “wing speed” with the speeds of two real birds by asking:
- Look at the numbers in the chart. Who can flap the most times while I count to 2?
- Who is the fastest flapper on the chart?
- Who flaps the least amount of times?
- Who is the slowest flapper?
Tell your child that hummingbirds flap their wings so fast that it’s hard to see their wings.
