Some ceratopsians (sehr-uh-TOP-see-uns) were big. Some were small. But they all ate plants. And they all had beaks!

When ceratopsians first appeared, most of them were pretty small. But after millions of years, they began to grow much bigger. Some were as long as a delivery truck! And many ceratopsians grew long horns and big frills.

  • Ceratopsians probably used their large horns to show off to each other and scare away predators. If that didn’t work, they used them to fight.
  • The frills and horns also most likely helped ceratopsians spot other members of the same dinosaur group.
  • Male ceratopsians may have used their horns and frills to get attention from females.
