Make a Map

June is Great Outdoors Month! Head outside and create a map of your favorite place.

Do you have a favorite place to be outside? Make a map and show the way to your favorite outdoor spot. Then, see if your friends and family can follow your map and find your special outdoor place!

What You Need

  • any kind of paper or cardboard
  • pencils, markers, or crayons
  • tape measure (optional)

What You Do

  • Choose your favorite outdoor place. It could be in your yard, neighborhood, or local park.

  • On any size piece of paper, draw a path to follow to get to your special place.

  • Add landmarks to your map to help show the way, such as an unusual tree, a big rock, a road, or anything else that will tell someone he or she is on the right path.

  • If you want, use a compass to add directions (north, south, east, west), and a tape measure to add distances to your map.
