English Parent Reading Guide

RRJR August 2025 Cover sea turtleDear Parents and Guardians:

Every issue of Ranger Rick Jr. includes stories about animals. After you’ve read the stories in this month’s issue, I encourage you and your child to have fun making your own stories.

Fun with Ricky text

Turn to page 21 and show your child the Mad Lib. Explain that the two of you will think of words to fill in the blanks to complete the story. The first blank asks for a word that describes movement. You might say “hop” or “swim.” Fill in the rest of the blanks and then read your story aloud. Try it again with different words.

Bonnie and Chester

Read the comic on page 23 with your child. Explain that a comic uses pictures and voice bubbles to tell a story. Then use your phone to scan the QR code below. It will open an app that allows you to make a two-panel comic using the Bonnie and Chester characters. If you add a voice bubble and click on it, you can type text. Have fun!

Look for a word at the end of each video. Use those words to complete the sentence on the bottom of page 21. It reveals the content you’ll find in the September issue of Ranger Rick Jr.

I hope you and your child are enjoying the summer!
