English Parent Reading Guide

red panda Ranger Rick Jr. Cover November 2025Dear Parents and Guardians:

This month in Ranger Rick Jr., you’ll read about red pandas and learn how birds use their bills as tools. After reading the magazine, I encourage you to take your child outside to look for seasonal changes and nearby wildlife.

QR code for Kahoot quizRead about birds on pages 16–21. Ask your child which beak she thinks is the most interesting. Why? Then scan the QR code on page 21. This online quiz is a fun way to test how much your child remembers. You can take turns answering the questions.

Look at the “Ricky and Pals” story on pages 12–15. After reading page 13, stop and ask your child who she thinks the visitor might be. Then read the rest of the story. Explain that “Old Man Winter” is not a real person. Rather, it refers to the winter season. Ask your child what signs she has seen that winter is on its way.

Now turn to pages 26–27. All these photos were submitted by Ranger Rick Jr. readers. They show animals children have seen in their neighborhoods. Ask your child what wild animals she has seen near your home. Ask if she wished any of the animals in the photos lived near you.

Look for signs of seasonal changes and animals living nearby. Did you have to put on a jacket before going outside? That’s one! Are there leaves on the ground? That’s two! Do you see a bird’s nest in a tree? That’s three! What else do you see? Don’t forget to look up and down.

I hope you and your child are enjoying the cooler weather.
