Arjun is a Ranger Rick reader from Texas with a very special talent: nature photography. His specialty is bird photos. He’s already earned some big-time awards. And he’s only 12 years old!

In 2022, Arjun won Bird Photographer of the Year in the kid category for his shot of a curious barred owl chick (above). The next year, he won a Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year award for a predawn shot of migrating sandhill cranes (below).

For Arjun, everything is—and always has been—all about birds. At his kindergarten graduation ceremony, he stood up and announced, “I’m 5 years old. When I grow up, I want to be an ornithologist.” An ornithologist is a bird scientist. And it’s no surprise that Arjun wants to become one. He’d always climb a backyard tree to watch birds come and go. He loved their beauty and was curious about their ability to fly. He’s helped different scientists collect information to solve bird problems. He shares his passion and knowledge with others. He’s even sold his photos to raise money for wildlife groups.

Arjun does care about ALL wildlife, not just birds. He says, “Helping birds would indirectly help other animals, too. That’s because, in nature, everything is connected!” Of course, he’ll always have a
camera on hand, too.
