Hank B., African Wild Dog Hero

Eight-year-old Hank B. has always enjoyed books about animals—and he loves solving problems. When Hank was six, he read about the troubles faced by endangered African wild dogs (also called African painted dogs) and knew he had to help. Hank learned that hundreds of thousands of these beautiful, social canines had once roamed Africa. Now, because of disease, habitat loss, and other threats, only a few thousand of the animals remain in the wild.

Hank wanted to help. He designed a logo by himself. Then, with the help of his parents, he started selling shirts and hoodies online. Hank explained his fundraiser at his school and his church—and raised over $500 for Painted Dog Conservation, an organization that helps protect African wild dogs. Thanks, Hank!
