Read It!GREAT GRAY OWL
A great gray owl is big and tall—
One of the biggest owls of all.
On silent wings, this owl takes flight
Through forest trees, by day or night.
PYGMY OWL
A pygmy owl is small and light.
It likes to hunt by day, not night.
In forests, where it flies down low,
It catches small birds on the go.
BARN OWL
With a face shaped like a heart,
A barn owl is a work of art.
It listens for the quiet sound
Of tiny mouse feet on the ground
SCREECH OWL
In the woods, a screech owl cries.
It’s a little bird with big, round eyes.
It makes a sound like a horse’s whinny.
It’s mighty loud for an owl so mini!
GREAT HORNED OWL
Some people say this owl looks wise
With feathery brows above its eyes.
It hoots a call, deep and clear,
Hoo-hoo, hoo-hoo for all to hear!
SNOWY OWL
This owl lives where it’s cold and bright.
Its feathers match the snowy white.
It listens for rodents that tunnel below,
Then dives to catch them beneath the snow.
BURROWING OWL
A burrowing owl stays awake all day,
Hunting bugs and lizards that scurry its way.
A hole in the ground makes a really nice home.
With a family to raise, there’s no need to roam.
