Create a butterfly garden for your room!

What You Need

  • Markers
  • Construction paper (approximately 9″ x 12″)
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Scissors
  • Yarn

What You Do

  1. Cut and Decorate Paper
Cut a piece of construction paper in half widthwise. It is okay if one piece is slightly smaller than the other. Decorate the paper with markers. Encourage your child to make creative patterns on the wings.
  2. Fold and Stack Paper
Fold the pieces of paper accordion style. Stack the folded pieces on top of each other. Tightly pinch the pieces together in the middle. Using a sharp pair of scissors, make two shallow cuts (one on each side) in the area where you are pinching. This will help hold the pipe cleaner body in place.
  3. Add Pipe Cleaner
Fold a pipe cleaner in half. Twist the pipe cleaner a couple of times, starting at the bend. This will be the bottom of the butterfly’s body. Now, wrap the pipe cleaner around the middle of the wings, tucking it into the cuts. Twist the pipe cleaner a couple more times to finish off the butterfly’s body. Be sure to leave the ends untwisted to make antennae.
  4. Hang Butterfly
To hang the butterflies, string a piece of yarn through the pipe cleaner.
