Meet 6 animals that are active after dark.

Read It!Night Life article in Ranger Rick Jr.
  1. A tarsier (TAR-see-ur) is only as big as a tennis ball. But its eyes are huge. They let in enough light for the creature to see the insects it hunts at night.
  2. A little mouse feels safer looking for food at night. The whiskers on its face help the mouse feel its way in the dark.
  3. A bat uses its ears to hunt in the dark. It squeaks out high-pitched sounds. The sounds hit a moth and bounce back. That lets the bat “see” where the moth is, so it can grab it up.
  4. A raccoon is built for night life. It feels around with its super-sensitive front paws to find goodies to eat.
  5. A firefly makes its own light. It flashes signals to “talk” to other fireflies in the dark.
  6. A fox hunts at night. It uses its keen sense of smell and excellent hearing to find its prey.
