Here are some fun facts about hippos:

It’s very hot and sunny where hippos live. So they spend most days chilling in rivers or lakes.

Hippo is short for “hippopotamus,” which means “water horse.”

A hippo’s eyes, ears, and nose are on the top of its head. So hippos can see, hear, and breathe when they are mostly underwater!

A group of hippos is called a pod.

Hippos cannot float. If the water is deep, a hippo sinks down and runs across the bottom.

Hippos like to stick together when they are in the water.

Hippos eat grass, and lots of it! They spend hours every evening grazing.

Hippos are huge, but they can run fast.

Hippos have huge mouths and long teeth called tusks. When a hippo wants to scare away an animal, it just opens wide!
