➡️  Sea turtles flap their large front flippers like wings to “fly” through the water. They use their smaller hind flippers to steer.

➡️  Most sea turtles live in warm ocean waters around the world.

➡️  A sea turtle’s hard shell covers and protects most of its body. Unlike many turtles that live on land, a sea turtle can’t pull its head inside its shell.

➡️  Fish often nibble on plant-like algae (AL-jee) that grow on a sea turtle’s shell. These fish help keep sea turtles clean.

➡️  A sea turtle eats seagrasses. It uses its jagged beak to cut them off.

➡️  A female sea turtle comes ashore to lay her eggs.

➡️  A mother turtle digs a hole on the beach and lays about 100 eggs. Then she covers the eggs with sand and returns to the ocean.

➡️  After two months, the baby turtles hatch. Each tiny turtle digs its way out of the sand and races to the sea.

➡️  Then the baby turtles swim away. They won’t return to land unless they come ashore someday to lay eggs of their own.
