Make fancy Valentine cookies with a simple recipe. The variations are as endless as your child’s imagination and the contents of your pantry!
What You Need
- Chocolate or carob chips, coconut flakes, nuts, and/or Valentine candy to decorate the cookies
- Red food coloring
- Red fruit spread or jelly (strawberry or raspberry works well)
- Vanilla wafers
What You Do
- Prepare Spread
Add a few drops of red food coloring to three or four spoonfuls of fruit spread and stir well. The coloring helps make the spread a bright, Valentine red. The amount of spread doesn’t have to be exact; just make as much as you think you’ll use and add coloring to your liking. - Decorate Cookies
Spoon small amounts of the spread onto the tops of the vanilla wafers. Shape the spread into hearts or circles. Add coconut flakes or nuts on top of the spread to decorate. You can also add chocolate or carob chips or Valentine candy by putting a small amount of spread on the bottom of each piece and sticking the pieces onto the wafers.
